Padang Bai Area Dive Sites
Padang Bai
Location : Padang Bai hideaway village and its white sandy beaches are reached by road only 45 mins from Sanur. Dive Centre & Dive Resort of Absolute Scuba Bali is located on the northern beach front of Padang Bai harbour.
Highlights : A short boat ride will then take you to Padang Bai dive sites. Bright white sand and colorful corals are home to everything from the smallest reef fish to all manner of marine life; rays, cuttlefish, crocodile fish and frequent sharks & turtle sightings.
Conditions : Much more gentle & protected than the islands off the East coast, and for this reason the water of blue lagoon are much warmer.
Tepekong
Location : Close to Candi Dasa there are three larger islands, Tepekong, Gili Biaha & Mimpang
Highlights : Bali Sunfish are regular visitors especially from July to September. This location is a great place to see something "big". Tepekong Sharks are quite common. Bali Sunfish (mola-mola) are also regular
Conditions : A very small island (only about 3000 m2) with 2 or 3 diving sites. Sometime when the current is right, you can explore the whole underwater sites in just 2 - 3 dives. Water is generally crystal clear with visibility of more than 20m. This area is among the best, yet the most challenging.
Mimpang
Location :Close to Candi Dasa there are three larger islands, Tepekong, Gili Biaha & Mimpang
Highlights : Mimpang is also called Batu Tiga (three rocks) although there are actually 4 small exposed rocks that come to the surface, on the center rock there is an eagle nest. This is a slope and a wall with hard and soft corals and some gorgonians. This is the best place around Padang Bai to see sharks but also a good place for Mola Mola. It's also amazing to just watch the big schools of fish gather over the upper parts of the reef. The currents here can be strong, but are said to be predictable.
Conditions :With a good current flow in the area. Visibility is around 20m+, Temperatures are usually 26 to 29C but may drop to around 20C
Gili Biaha
Location : Close to Candi Dasa there are three larger islands, Tepekong, Gili Biaha & Mimpang
Highlights : Gili Biaha (Likman island): There is a blow hole which spouts jets of water, so Gili Biaha looks like a large whale! This dive site is not for beginners, since the cold currents coming from the Lombok Strait create unpredictable water movements like a washing machine!
Conditions : With a good current flow in the area. Visibility is around 20m+, Temperatures are usually 26 to 29C but may drop to around 20C.
